Diana’s life has been a tapestry of investigations into plants, from gardening and preservation to magical potions and natural remedies all the while infused with inspiration from Indigenous peoples across three continents.
Her adventure began in the Amazon Basin fifteen years ago with the traditional alcohol-based tonics, or tinctures. While not a fan of alcohol, the powerful effects of the remedies ignited her curiosity, prompting her to investigate new ways to extract the medicinal properties of the diverse jungle plants around her. Freshly prepared teas and infusions brought healing, yet quickly fermented in the heat, while essential oils proved costly and misaligned with indigenous practices.
A moment of clarity arrived while in a ceremony with the Ayahuasca brew, revealing that this same extraction method could apply to nearly any plant. Through her own apprenticeships with several curanderos (healers in the jungle), she gained profound wisdom of local medicinal flora and embarked on a journey of experimentation. Bottles of concentrates quickly filled her shelves, generously shared with her Cocama neighbors, friends, and her guests in her small backpacker lodge. As she continued to confirm their effects and dosages, more visitors eagerly expressed their desire to learn the art of preparing these remedies.
With the growing demand for her knowledge, she opened her heart to apprentices, each a passionate soul bringing unique gifts and wisdom to the preparation process. Together with Diana, they formed the cooperative known as Hearts-n-Barks, a shining testament to the beauty of community and the magic of nature.

Former apprentices often return to the jungle to reconnect with Diana their ‘Jungle Mama”. They stay for varying lengths of time, assisting her with the teaching and preparation of plant medicines. In essence, they are embarking upon an internship, acquiring extended wisdom and experience that resonates with their unique gifts and aspirations.
